On February 2, Honda held a press conference on its strategic plan for the hydrogen energy business.Honda is committed to achieving further upgrades to the fuel cell system, which is the core of the hydrogen energy business, with a new generation of fuel cell systems jointly developed by Honda and General Motors. In addition to this, Honda has positioned four main areas of application for fuel cell systems - fuel cell vehicles (FCEVs), commercial vehicles, stationary power, and construction machinery - and is actively collaborating with other companies. US start-up SGH2 Energy has made the final investment decision for a plant with an annual capacity of 4,500 tonnes after receiving final permit approval from the City of Lancaster. The hydrogen plant, located in Lancaster, Los Angeles County, will use SGH2 Energy's patented plasma enhanced gasification technology to produce hydrogen from 42,000 tonnes per year of 'waste recycled mixed paper waste'.
The plant project is currently eligible for a $3/kg hydrogen tax credit under the US Inflation Reduction Act and a $3 million grant previously awarded by the California Energy Commission.

Power systems developer H2F1y expects its fuel cell-powered HY4 demonstrator to be back in the air this summer after the installation of a new liquid hydrogen fuel system, it was reported on 4 February.
Air Liquide is currently testing the fuel system, said H2FI's CEO. The switch to liquid hydrogen will at least double the performance of the HY4, increasing the range to around 1,500 kilometres from the previous level of around 700 kilometres.
