Daimler develops 1,000km range hydrogen-powered heavy truck in the US

Researchers at Oregon State University in the USA are recently working with Daimler Trucks North America to develop a hydrogen fuel cell-powered heavy-duty truck for regional and long-haul transport. As part of Daimler's "SuperTruck" project, the hydrogen-powered heavy-duty tractor is expected to be able to travel up to 600 miles (965 km).

The SuperTruck project is part of a larger $162 million programme awarded by the US Department of Energy (DOE) to improve the efficiency and reduce the carbon emissions of cars, trucks and off-road vehicles. In the latest round of SuperTruck financing, the department awarded a total of $127 million to five heavy-duty vehicle manufacturers.

Recently, the full report of Beijing's plan was released, and the ten major tasks for 2023 were announced, among which the hydrogen energy aspect pointed out: to build a green and intelligent energy industry cluster, to accelerate the landing of key projects such as the National Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle Inspection and Testing Center, to speed up the construction of the "Energy Valley" in the Future Science City, to support the research and development and industrialization of new energy storage, hydrogen energy, low-speed wind power, high-efficiency photovoltaic and other energy fields. It also supports the development and industrialization of new energy storage, hydrogen energy, low-speed wind power, high-efficiency photovoltaic and other energy technologies.

Jiangxi Province Hydrogen Energy Industry Development Medium and Long-term Plan (2023-2035) released

On January 30, the Energy Bureau of Jiangxi Provincial Development and Reform Commission released the Medium and Long-term Plan for the Development of Hydrogen Energy Industry in Jiangxi Province (2023-2035), which points out that: currently, by 2025, the amount of hydrogen produced from renewable energy will reach 1,000 tons/year and become an important part of new hydrogen energy consumption and new renewable energy consumption. Hydrogen energy application pilot and demonstration projects have increased in an orderly and diversified manner, the province has about 500 fuel cell vehicles, a number of hydrogen-powered ships have been put into operation, and 10 hydrogen refuelling stations have been built in total. Demonstration projects of hydrogen energy in industrial fields such as steel, non-ferrous metals and synthetic ammonia were carried out solidly. The production capacity of fuel cell engines was further expanded, and the application scenarios of fuel cells were further enriched. The total output value of the province's hydrogen energy industry exceeded 30 billion yuan. Relying on the advantages of rare earth and other mineral resources, the hydrogen storage new materials industry was vigorously developed and breakthroughs in key segments were achieved.

Wuhan Air Quality Improvement Plan (2023-2025)" was released

On 29 January, the Wuhan Ecological and Environmental Protection Commission issued a notice on the issuance of the Wuhan Air Quality Improvement Plan (2023-2025).

The Plan points out the vigorous development of new and clean energy in hydrogen energy. Strengthen the alternative use of energy and resource sharing in industrial clusters. Make full use of the regional advantages of the layout of distributed wind, solar, biomass, hydrogen and geothermal energy, actively cultivate new energy industries, and build a diversified and clean energy consumption structure.

Strictly control the total consumption of coal. Relying on Baowu Clean Energy Company to lay out hydrogen source industry clusters in Qingshan District to accelerate the enhancement of green and low-carbon transportation. Implement the Action Plan for Breakthrough Development of Hydrogen Energy Industry in Wuhan City, and take the lead in demonstrating and promoting the procurement of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in the areas of new and updated public transport commuting, logistics, gardening operations, sanitation and rubbish collection, high-pressure cleaning, and slag transport vehicles in the city.
